Huila: Over 12 million doses of poultry vaccines produced

Lubango – At least 12.2 million doses of vaccines for poultry were produced by the Newcastle disease regional laboratory based in Lubango, southern Huila province, since it was set up in 2012.

The information was released by the provincial director of Agriculture, Lutero Campos, who added that the laboratory with an installed capacity to manufacture 180,000 doses per month, is currently producing 150,000 due to shortage of materials.

He explained that the vaccines produced by the Lubango laboratory are still undergoing tests and need improvement, but are being used around the country.

Lutero Campos said the rate of birds dying of the Newcastle disease is still high which, according to him, worries the authorities.

Inaugurated in 2012, the Newcastle disease laboratory was financed by the European Union at the cost of about Eur. 1.5 million.
