Angola: Over one million voter ID cards re-issued -MAT

More than one million voter cards were re-issued (duplicate) across the country, for loss, ahead of 2017 General Elections, said Monday minister of Territory Administration, Bornito de Sousa.

The minister said so at the meeting the Territory Administration Ministry held with the representatives of the political parties.

Addressing the ruling MPLA and opposition UNITA, PRS, PDP-ANA, FNLA, Bloco Democratico e Alianca Patriotica Nacional (APN), Bornito de Sousa recommended attention to the citizens in preservation of the their cards.

According to him, some 1.3 million electoral registration were conducted in the first month of the second phase of the process.

The data include prove of life and new voter registration, he said.

Bornito de Sousa put the number of registered citizens at more than 7.1 million, with the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Huambo and Huila topping the list.

The official stressed the importance of dialogue among different political actors in the country which, according to him, ensure more reliability and transparency of the process.

During the meeting, the minister pointed out, as main constraints, the breakdowns and thefts of the means and equipment designed for electoral registration.
