Two inmates charged with illegally hunting warthog near Tsumeb


The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region have opened a case of illegal hunting against two inmates for allegedly hunting and killing a warthog at the Evaristus Shikongo Correctional Facility on Tuesday.

According to the region’s Head of Crime Prevention Deputy Commissioner, Wynand Neels, the incident occurred on Tuesday around 12h45 while the suspects were tending to goats at the facility.

‘They allegedly unlawfully and intentionally hunted and killed a warthog by setting a snare wire. They were formally charged and a case of illegal hunting read with hunting of huntable game without a permit has been opened against them,’ Neels said.

The warthog is estimated to be valued at N.dollars 3 000 and only its head and a few pieces of meat were recovered.

Neels further said a knife, lighter, frying pan, pot, rope and a snare wire were reportedly found as well when officials from the correctional facility and NamPol attended to the scene.
