FILDA2023: Portuguese diplomat urges contribution to Angola’s economic diversification

Portuguese ambassador to Angola Francisco Alegre Duarte on Wednesday urged Portuguese businesspeople to contribute to Angola’s economic diversification, as it is a decisive process to respond to the challenge of the country’s demographic growth.

The diplomat, who was addressing Portuguese businesspeople taking part in the 38th edition of the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), stressed that confidence and belief are needed to overcome the current moment of inflation that Angola faces and should be seen as a business opportunity.

The diplomat emphasised the fact that Portugal is the largest foreign nation participating in the fair with 54 stands, underlining that this is a sign of the strength of Portugal and Luso-Angolan companies in this market.

The ambassador added that 2023 has been a good year for relations between Angola and Portugal.

“I particularly highlight the visit we had of the Prime Minister, which culminated in important results, namely the stabilisation and extension of the credit line, from 1.5 billion to 2 billion Euros”.

“It is a sign of confidence that Portugal has given to the Angolan economy, at a time when the retraction and some difficulty in attracting foreign investment were already expected”, the ambassador said.

The 38th edition of the Luanda International Fair (FILDA) is taking place from 18 to 22 July in Angola’s capital city. More than 1,300 entrepreneurs, national and foreign are attending the event, including representatives from South Africa, Italy, Germany, Japan, USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey and Portugal.
