Changaa Seller Fined Sh 5,000 After Being Found With Four Litres Of Chang’aa

A woman found in possession of four litres of chang’aa fined Sh 5,000 or serve two months’ imprisonment in default by a Kabarnet court.

The court heard that on March 4, 2024 at about 9.30 pm at Kituro area in Baringo Central Sub-County, Baringo County, Precious Kipruto was found in possession of the said traditional drink in three ‘dirty’ plastic containers which does not conform to the requirements of Alcoholic Drinks Control Act.

The facts stated that on the material day police officers were on a routine patrol within the village when they got a tip from members of the public that there was a lady selling chang’aa within the vicinity and upon visiting her house and doing a search they managed to recover three bottles with chang’aa which did not conform with the Alcoholic Drinks Act in terms of packaging.

On appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate (SPM) Purity Koskey the accused pleaded guilty to being in possession of traditional drink contrary to section 27 (1) (b) as read with section 27 (4) of th
e alcoholic drinks control Act No.4 of 2010.

The accused who was treated as a first offender was convicted as charged by SPM Koskey who ordered her to pay a fine of Sh 5,000 or face two months in jail.
