Zaire: 84 DRC citizens arrested for illegal stay

Mbanza Congo – Eighty four citizens from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been questioned and detained in the last seven days by the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) in the northern Zaire province for illegal entry and stay in the national territory.

The Zaire Provincial Command of the National Police said Monday in a press statement sent to Angop in Mbanza Congo that the arrest results from the routine actions carried out by the SME staff in the region.

Compared to the previous week, the document added, there was a decrease of 22 citizens from this neighbouring country questioned and detained by the related authorities.

Regarding the violations at the Angola/DRC border, the note informs that seven cases of infringement have been reported (less 19), five of them for illegal entry of foreigners, one for tax evasion and one for smuggling of fuel.

The province of Zaire shares 330 kilometers of border with the region of Central Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo.
