UGANDA: AVOID WOMANISING, ALCOHOL – PRES MUSEVENI ADVISES NATIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS

KAMPALA– Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has advised the country’s national footballers to avoid taking alcohol and womanising in order to enhance their performances .

The 74-year-old president made the remarks on his official Twitter handle as he was congratulating the team for qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, with a game in hand.

The Uganda Cranes booked their ticket to the continental competition on Saturday after beating Cape Verde by a solitary goal to move to 13 points at the top of Group L.

From my footballing experience, I know that the following ingredients are important for the game; stamina, skill and teamwork. Stamina is critical because you do a lot of running. You must eat well, exercise and avoid alcohol, smoking and womanising, Museveni said in his Twitter post.

The president had hosted the team at State House on Monday, where he urged them to ensure a win in the final game against Tanzania.

Even if the Cranes have already qualified, I know that they still have a game to play against Tanzania. Please make sure you do not lose that game. Congratulations once again, he said.

Cranes participation in the 2019 AFCON will be their second consecutive appearance at the competition. Before the 2017 AFCON hosted by Gabon, Uganda had never qualified for the tournament for 38 years.

13 teams have so far qualified for AFCON 2019, the first that will see an expanded number of participating countries.

Cameroon will be the first country to host the 24-team showdown, which initially had only 16 teams fighting for glory.
