Telecom: Consumers Demand Better Services Amidst Tariff Hike

Abuja: Some telecommunication service consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged Mobile Network Operators to improve their services to match the recent hike in their tariffs. They made the call in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the subscribers expressed concerns that despite the increase in subscription rates, mobile networks could remain unreliable for hours. In a publication dated February 6, 2024, the Executive Vice-chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, stated that the commission would hold service providers accountable for poor service delivery.

Mr. Ogah Paul, one of the subscribers, shared his frustration, stating that although he had enough data on his network, he could not access the internet due to network issues. He urged service providers to address the problems contributing to poor services. “The only thing they know is to drain data without any good service delivery,” he said, expressing his dissatisfaction with the persistent server errors and slow internet speeds.

Another subscriber, Mr. Victor James, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the delay in data plan activation and the inability to use his data as desired. “I am really tired of this. The network is really bad. I hope the issues get resolved as soon as possible,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for immediate improvements.

In contrast, Ms. Josephine Tanko reported a positive experience with her network provider, describing it as fast and reliable. She expressed her satisfaction and loyalty, while also calling on other networks to enhance their services to meet subscriber expectations.
