Senegal: Angola’s experience on education for cultural rebirth presented

Dakar – The experience of Angola in the area of education for African cultural rebirth and the Pan-African ideas was conveyed last Thursday in Dakar, Senegal, by the specialist if the Norwegian NGO ADPP/Angola, Rikke Viholm.

Speaking at the panel on “Education for African cultural rebirth and the Pan-African ideas” – moderated by the Angolan Education minister, Pinda SimAPound o – Rikke Viholm presented the experience based on the project dubbed “Machimbombeando”.

Implemented in a four-year period, she explained, the project consisted of four trips by bus to some African countries, under the motto “Learning to travel, travelling to learn”.

Promoted by the Angolan Education Ministry and the ADPP/Angola, the project involved fifteen schools between 2013 and 2014, whose students travelled to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and throughought Angola.

Between 2015 and 2016, the same number of students (200) were taken to trips throughout Angola to discover more about the country’s diversity in aspects like culture, languages, history, geography and economy.

The trips required a preparation period that included studying certain aspects about Africa, as well as the practice of the English language.

The students visited factories, farms, hospitals, schools, mining activity sites, among other places, as well as interacted with locals.

An Angolan delegation, led by the Education minister, Pinda SimAPound o, is in Senegal participating in the Triennial on Education and Training in Africa.
