Pope Francis Remembered for Efforts Toward Global Peace and Compassion


Vatican City: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that Pope Francis will be remembered for his efforts to build “a more just, peaceful and compassionate world.” Von der Leyen shared her remarks on social media platform X, expressing her condolences following the Vatican’s announcement of the pontiff’s death at the age of 88. She highlighted his influence, noting that he inspired millions globally, extending beyond the Catholic Church, with his humility and love for the less fortunate.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, von der Leyen expressed her thoughts for those mourning the loss, hoping they find comfort in the belief that Pope Francis’ legacy will continue to inspire efforts toward justice, peace, and compassion worldwide.



Roberta Metsola, the president of the European Parliament, also paid tribute to Pope Francis, emphasizing his impact through his “contagious smile” that resonated with millions across the globe. Metsola referred to him as “The People’s Pope,” acknowledging his commitment to life, peace, equality, and social justice, and expressed her wishes for him to rest in peace.
