Niger: At least 52 dead in a drowning in the Tillia area


Ouagadougou: At least 52 people drowned and others went missing, between August 12 and 13, 2024, following heavy rains in the Tillia area of ??Niger, reports the Agency Nigerian Press (ANP).

Following heavy rains recorded from August 12 to 13, 2024 in the department of Tillia, two passenger transport vehicles coming from Tahoua for the weekly Telemces market sank into the kori of Garin Ali (70 km north of Tahoua) which is at a very high water level because the valley has carried away water.

The provisional report shows 52 dead and several missing according to a local source.

After a few moments of resistance from the passengers facing the power of the water in the two (2) vehicles, they were swept away by the water for the moment there are 52 dead and others missing.

The search for other bodies is still continuing according to the ANP source despite the fact that the location is inaccessible because the water continues to flow, the defense and security forces (FDS) in particular the Gendarmerie and the Na
tional Guard are on foot work to go to the scene, no vehicle can have access, she concludes.

The traders who lost their jobs are mostly natives of the town of Tahoua, the village of Taza and Igawane.
