Mozambique: Four Thousand Companies Confirm Presence at FACIM

More than four thousand companies have confirmed that they will attend this year’s edition of the Maputo Trade Fair (FACIM). Last year’s fair had just over three thousand companies taking part.

The fair will take place between 29 August and 4 September at Ricatla, in Marracuene district, about 30 kilometres north of Maputo city. This year’s event will have a dozen pavilions.

The director of FACIM, Octavio Francisco, confirmed that thirty countries will take part in the event, and highlighted the attendance for the first time of Angola, Ireland and Belarus.

However, Francisco conceded that there will be a reduced level of foreign participation which he partly put down to the political and military tensions in the country (the opposition party Renamo is waging a violent campaign in some parts of the centre of the country which is adversely affecting businesses). In addition, he lamented that the economic situation that has shaken the Mozambique, and many other countries, could affect commercial ties.

Despite the constraints related to the economic situation in the country and region, the organisers expect over 80,000 visitors to the fair.

According to Francisco, the highlights of the fair include an awards ceremony for the best export company and the best exhibitor.
