More than 400 Africans study in nuclear energy sector in Russia


More than 400 African students are studying in nuclear energy-related disciplines at Russian universities, Alexei Semyonov, head of development for Africa at the Russian state corporation Rosatom, reported.

‘For Rosatom, youth have always been a priority. In Africa, we are taking the same approach. Today, for example, more than 400 African students are studying engineering, nuclear energy management and all related disciplines at Russian universities. When they return to their countries, they will be able to contribute to the development of nuclear energy,’ he said, speaking at the international youth festival in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

The Rosatom official added that the company had also signed agreements with local universities and companies to develop nuclear education in Zambia, Rwanda and South Africa.

The international youth festival, attended by Russian and African representatives, is being held at the International University of East Africa in Kampala and in the city of Jinja on October 4
