The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, chaired, late Thursday morning, in Ouagadougou, the official launch ceremony of the Month of Local Consumption in the UEMOA area, which he described as a ‘vital strategy to stimulate our industry’ in his speech read by the Minister in charge of Industry.
‘Buying local is not only a patriotic act; it is a vital strategy to stimulate our industry, create decent jobs and ensure resilience in the face of global challenges,’ President Ibrahim Traoré said in his speech read by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, Serge Gnaniodem Poda, on Thursday.
The Head of State chaired the official launch of the initiative “Month of October, month of consuming locally” in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
Established in October 2019 in Ouagadougou, ‘October, Month of Local Consumption’ is an initiative aimed at intensifying actions to promote the consumption of local products in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) area.

peech, President Ibrahim Traoré stated that “this decision is in line with our policy of making the consumption of local products the basis of genuine endogenous and inclusive development.”
Placed under the theme “Consuming locally, a lever for industrial development, competitiveness and resilience of the economies of UEMOA”, this 5th edition of the “Month of consuming locally” calls upon “the importance and the need to promote our local resources, to promote our know-how and to strengthen our economic autonomy”, supported Minister Poda.
The 5th edition of the “Month of consuming local” coincides with the second phase of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation. According to the Minister in charge of Commerce, these two activities are “a call to promote our cultures and our productions thanks to our endogenous knowledge.”
The President of the Regional Consular Chamber of UEMOA, representing the sponsors, Mrs. Helena Nosolini Embalo indicated that the “Month of local consumption”
is “a unique opportunity” to boost local production, attract investors and promote jobs.
The interim representative of the President of the UEMOA Commission, Jonas Gbian, stressed the commitment of the Commission and the Member States to make local consumption a lever for the competitiveness of local products. To do this, UEMOA will develop national strategies and a regional strategy for the promotion of local products.
