Minister Urges NYSC Members to Enhance Community Service Through Innovation.


Abuja: Dr Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called upon prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to embrace creativity and innovation as they prepare to serve their communities. This appeal was made during the NYSC pre-mobilisation workshop held in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Mahmoud emphasized the rapidly evolving needs of communities in a changing world, highlighting the necessity for youth corps members to be equipped with creativity, resilience, and innovation in order to tackle these challenges effectively. She advocated for the role of stakeholders in shaping the experiences of young Nigerian graduates to ensure they possess the skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary for positive societal contributions.

Dr Mahmoud described the NYSC as a “cornerstone” of national integration and development since its inception in 1973, highlighting its role in fostering unity among young Nigerians. She noted that the pre-mobilisation work
shop serves as a platform to share best practices, explore new ideas, and collaborate on strategies to enhance the scheme’s effectiveness. The theme of the workshop, “Strengthening the NYSC Mobilisation Process for Effective Service Delivery,” was said to align with the national vision.

She praised the leadership of the NYSC for their dedication to improving service quality and preparing youth for future responsibilities, stating that investing in their development equates to investing in Nigeria’s future.

Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General, reiterated the scheme’s importance in nation-building and fostering unity among various nationalities. He underscored the significant impact of the scheme across both urban and rural communities and stressed the critical nature of the mobilisation process. Ahmed assured the management’s commitment to maintaining high standards to maximize the scheme’s benefits for Nigerians.
