Men and Women effective equality Ensured

Luanda – The Secretary of State for Human Rights, Antonio Bento Bembe, said Thursday in Luanda that the Angolan Government has committed itself to the gradual elimination of all forms of gender discrimination, ensuring effective equality between men and women.

Speaking at the opening of the public debate on “Report of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (2013-2017)”, he stressed that, by ratifying the Convention, the country had assumed responsibility for the right to equality.

He recalled that the main purpose of these instruments and the internationalization of these rights were to stimulate, recognize and value the dignity of the human person, not taking into account their origin, race, culture and legal regime.

The official said that a system for the protection of human rights has been created, which in a universal context is exercised by the United Nations and, regionally, organizations such as the African system.

Bento Bembe said that the preparation of this report and the upcoming defense is crucial to organize a public debate with Civil Society Organizations and other public institutions to collect contributions, involving a permanent articulation.
