Lunda Norte: Authorities assure security on DRC border

Dundo – Angola’s northeastern Lunda Norte province authorities have assured that there is security in the localities bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where a domestic conflicts is taking place, particularly in Cassai and Central Cassi regions.

The assurance was given on Sunday in Dundo city, by the authorities’s spokesperson, Marcelino Caetano, who confirmed the existence of more than 9,200 refugees at several transit posts until last Friday.

According to the official, 3,284 of the above refugees have been taken to the Mussungue shelter centre, but the number is on the rise.

He explained that the refugees will be transferred to other shelter centres that will be created.

Marcelino Caetano stated that the refugees include 1,393 children that entered across the border posts of Fortuna, Tchumo and Lupemba.

Speaking at a meeting with the province’s acting governor, Lino dos Santos, the local director of the Social Welfare Ministry (Minars), Wilson Palanca, stressed the need for essential goods and tents in view of the expected increase in refugees.
