Luanda hosts “4 February” celebrations main act

Luanda – The north-western Lunda Province, the country?s capital, will host the main commemoration ceremony of the 4 February date, celebrated as the Day of the Start of Armed Struggle for National Liberation from Colonialism, which will happen under the motto ?Let us honour the 4 February Heroes, by building a better future?.

According to a memorandum drafted by the Ministry of Territory Administration (MAT), which has reached ANGOP, the main commemoration ceremony will take place in Cazenga Municipality, in the square in which is located a monument built to honour the heroes that participated, on 4 February 1961, in the uprising that led to the generalisation of the armed struggle against the Portuguese colonial authorities.

The celebrations in the ambit of this public holiday will include lectures, conferences, sports and cultural activities, as well as other socio-political functions countrywide.

ANGOP has learnt that the country’s embassies and consular offices have also been instructed to implement a commemoration programme running from 1 to 25 February.

The Monument-Flag, located at the National Museum of Military History, will be hoisted on 4 February, in the presence of government officials, representatives of political parties, members of the 4 February Association (AssociacAPound o 4 de Fevereiro) and former combatants, besides other guests.
