FRENCH CITIZENS IN MOZAMBIQUE VOTED OVERWHELMINGLY FOR MACRON

MAPUTO, French citizens in Maputo who were registered to vote in Sunday’s presidential election, gave overwhelming support to centrist candidate Emannuel Macron, now the president-elect, and dealt a crushing defeat on the far right candidate, Marine Le Pen.

According to the results released by the French Embassy here Monday, there were 361 French citizens registered to vote in Maputo, of whom 219 cast ballots.

There were 12 spoiled ballot papers and 207 valid votes, of which 194 (93.7 per cent) were cast for Macron and only 13 (6.3 per cent) for Le Pen.

The overall count in the presidential election has not yet been completed finished but as of late Monday morning, 99 per cent of the votes had been counted and almost two thirds of them were for Macron.

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has already met Macron. On Nyusi’s official visit to France in July 2015, Macron, who was then Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs, was his host at a lunch with the French business community.
