France’s Macron gets backing from Socialist ex-mayor of Paris Delanoe

PARIS – French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron got the backing of Socialist former Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoe on Wednesday, in another boost for the centrist’s campaign at the expense of the Socialist candidate, Benoit Hamon.

“The advantage of Macron’s programme is it is serious and credible in terms of economic strategy. It makes social progress possible,” Delanoe said in an interview to RTL radio station. “I think that his (Hamon’s) programme is dangerous.”

Macron, an independent candidate, is tipped in most opinion polls at the moment to make it along with far-right leader Marine Le Pen to the runoff vote in the presidential contest on May 7, and beat her in that duel.
