Electricity supply restrictions may decrease by end of month

Luanda – The level of water at USD 4.5 billion worth LaAca Dam Reservoir under construction on Kwanza River, northern Malanje province, may reach its 800 meters as from April 25 to enable the kickoff of the tests of the power plant turbine.

This was pledged Friday by general director of the Middle Kwanza Exploitation Office (Gamek), Fernando Barros.

He said currently the water level has reached 794 meters in terms of stored capacity, lacking more than four meters to achieve its goal.

The official predicted that until April 25 the water level may reach the 800 metres.

The filling process of the LaAca Dam reservoir to provide more than 2 billion cubic meters of water

started last March 11.

This situation has forced Gamek to retain the large chunk of water aimed at feeding the Cambambe Dam, 960 megawatts, the official told the “Falar Claro “Programme of the State-run Television station (TPA).

In order to mitigate the problem, he said, the sector is installing 100 megawatts power plants in the areas of Morro Bento and Camama.

The sector will also provide diesel engines and the first turbine of the Central Combined Cycle of Soyo, with 120 megawatts, to reduce the power supply restrictions to Luanda.
