DEPOWA President Advocates for Women’s Health and Wellness

Abuja: Mrs. Oghogho Musa, the President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), is championing a call to action for improved self-care and health consciousness among the spouses of military personnel. Musa made the call at a special DEPOWA Health Talk under the banner of ‘Wellness for the Women Who Hold the Home’, on Friday in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Musa commended the strength, resilience, and quiet sacrifices of military wives, emphasizing that personal well-being was not a luxury, but a necessity. She highlighted the importance of discipline, devotion, and duty, while acknowledging that in their service to others, military wives often neglect their own health and wellness needs.

The DEPOWA President encouraged attendees to reflect on their habits and health choices, advocating for adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and prioritization of physical, emotional, and mental wellness. She reaffirmed the association’s evolving mission of service, noting that it was expanding its focus to support its members with the same dedication they offer to others.

Musa emphasized that when the wife is well, the home is stronger, encouraging the women to make personal health a priority. She concluded her speech by reminding them that health is their greatest asset.

A guest speaker, Mrs. Esther Attah, the National Coordinator of Women Living with HIV/AIDS, reinforced the importance of health as a key factor in productivity. Attah urged the women to be proactive about their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, as well as their nutrition. She also addressed misconceptions about HIV, asserting that with proper care, individuals with HIV can live normal and healthy lives.

The event, reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, featured sessions on preventive care, early disease detection, nutrition, mental health, and the debunking of harmful health myths. Medical experts provided insights and practical health tips to empower women to take proactive steps towards safeguarding their well-being.

Over 500 wives of military and police officers attended the event, united by a common goal to create a healthier and more self-aware community of women.
