DEFENCE FORCE CALLS ON SOUTH AFRICANS LIVING NEAR BORDER WITH MOZAMBIUE TO HELP FIGHT CRIME

JOHANNESBURG– The South African National Defense Force (SANDF) has called on local communities living close to the country’s border with Mozambique to assist them with information which can lead to the arrest of criminals conducting illegal operations at the common border.

On Tuesday, members of the SANDF and the South African Police Service 9SAPS) recovered a stolen 4A4 vehicle on the South African-Mozambican border.

They believe that car hijacking syndicates are continuing to work with local community members to steal vehicles and sell them in Mozambique.

The SANDF says it is seeking the help of the local communities because they have first-hand knowledge of the local terrain.

Since March this year, stolen vehicles worth more than 7.0 million Rand (about 490,000 US dollars) have been recovered near the border with Mozambique.
