Chess: Esperanca Caxita wins African championship

Currently with Elo of 1800 against the previous 1794 (Rating of the International Federation of Chess (FIDE), the Angolan has qualified to compete in the qualifiers of the world championship, which takes place next September in Russia.

In Madagascar, Angola competed equally with two male athletes. Master candidate (CM) Sergio Miguel was in fourth place with 5.5 points, while FIDE Master (MF) Domingos Paulino, with 3 pts, ranked 14th among 16 participants.

This class was won by Antenaina Rakotomaharo of Madagascar with 7.5 points.

The chess players from Angola, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana and Mauritania participated in the event.
