Centre and UN-WCD Advocate for Foreign Policy Educational Initiatives

Abuja: The International Centre for Diplomatic Studies (ICDS) in Norway and the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD) in Canada, the UK, and Nigeria have emphasized the importance of implementing foreign policy educational programmes. This was highlighted during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dr. Demostene Olariu, President/CEO of ICDS, and Amb. Tunji Asaolu, Secretary-General/CEO of UN-WCD, in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the MoU aims to foster the exchange of knowledge, leadership visits, educational exchange programmes, and facility tours between the two organizations, adhering to existing legislative frameworks. The agreement outlines that neither organization is obligated to expend resources on legal or other assistance without an allocated budget.

The MoU specifies that any modifications or waivers related to the agreement must be documented in writing and signed by both parties. It emphasizes that any changes to the collaboration can only occur with mutual consent through an addendum. The agreement, governed by the laws of Norway, Canada, the UK, and Nigeria, supersedes all previous discussions. It also provides mechanisms for amicably resolving disputes or misunderstandings, including the potential termination of collaboration without prejudice.

The collaboration focuses on exploring and developing joint projects, research initiatives, and implementing relevant services. It also seeks to enhance communication about these efforts through various media platforms, both domestically and internationally.

The organizations assert that education is a powerful tool for global change, with the collaboration aimed at improving educational performance, exchanging expertise, and fostering cultural exchanges and diplomacy. The MoU underscores the commitment of ICDS and UN-WCD to advance education, diplomacy, and research initiatives across their respective regions.
