Benguela: CEAST quells suspicions in upcoming elections

Benguela – The president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and S. Tome, Archbishop Filomeno Vieira Dias, urged the Angolan citizens not to indulge in the fatalistic mentality of distrust and suspicion in the next elections.

The Catholic Church authority was speaking to journalists on the occasion of Assembly of Bishops in the coastal Benguela province, started on 21st this month.

He considered each vote important for the capable, honest and hardworking people with good plans that promote the integrity of life and people.

Archbishop said that democracy must be participatory and this requires that different members of society be heard, hence the Catholics are called to participate in this civic act.

The CEAST president said that the Bishops are concerned about the high unemployment rate of young people aged between 16 and 25, as well as adults.

Twenty bishops are attending the first plenary assembly of CEAST, running from 21 to 31 this month.
