Barsalogho: ECOWAS condemns ‘unreservedly barbaric attacks’


The ECOWAS Commission condemned Thursday, “without reservation, the barbaric attacks” committed Saturday in Barsalgho (Burkina Faso), by terrorists who took the lives of several people.

“The Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) unreservedly condemns the barbaric attacks perpetrated by armed terrorist groups in the commune of Barsalogho, in the north-central part of Burkina Faso, on Saturday, August 24, 2024,” the institution wrote on Thursday, in a statement sent to AIB.

On Saturday, several civilians and soldiers were killed and many others injured in Barsalgho, when terrorists indiscriminately opened fire on them during community work.

“ECOWAS presents its sincere condolences to the government and people of Burkina Faso, particularly to the bereaved families. It wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement added.

The sub-regional institution also expressed its solidarity with the government and people of Faso in their incessant fight against terrorists.

aid she was determined to fight alongside the States of the sub-region to eradicate terrorism, particularly through the ongoing activation of the ECOWAS counter-terrorism force.

“The Commission calls on all States in the sub-region to intensify their cooperation in intelligence sharing, border security and the implementation of the ECOWAS counter-terrorism strategy,” the statement concluded. Burkina
