AU: Angolan government aware of youth’s issue – minister

Addis Ababa – The minister of Family and Women Promotion Filomena Delgado said last Monday (23 January) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that the Angolan Government has been paying close attention to the problems of youth.

Filomena Delgado was speaking at the 9th Pre-Summit on Gender of the African Union, held under the theme ” Harnessing Demographic Dividend through investments in

youth”.

The minister said that the preparation of the new Programme that will run until 2021 is in progress in the country.

The official explained that the programme will consolidate the actions implemented in previous plans and create others to respond to the young people’s desires.

According to the minister, the National Plan for the Development of Youth, approved by Presidential Decree No. 71-14 of March 25, is based on four fundamental pillars:

They include the insertion of young people in active life; Improving the quality of life of young people; Participation of young people in the social development of the country and in improving the institutional framework of youth.

The opening session was chaired by Mahawa Kaba Wheeler, director of Department of women, gender and development of Commission of the African Union, assisted by Demitu Hambita, minister of women and children affairs of Ethiopia.
