Angola: Parliament, EU discuss cooperation

Luanda – National Assembly Speaker Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos Thursday in Luanda received the head of delegation of European Union (EU) in Angola, Tomas Ulicny, with whom he analysed matters of common interest.

Speaking to journalists, Tomas Ulicny said that the meeting focused on establishment of cooperation relation between the two parliamentary institutions.

The official announced the coming of European MPs delegation to Angola in the second half this year, at the invitation of the National Assembly Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

Tomas Ulicny said if such visit happens after the country’s election it will be more meaningful.

The EU official also announced that a Ministerial meeting at the level of EU in Brussels is set for next 7 March to gather Angolan government officials linked to the banking sector.

The objective of the event is to share experience aimed at establishing a relation with the European Central Bank.

As regard with banking sector, Tomas Ulicny stressed that the EU discussed today with its Angolan interlocutors the possibility of the African country to get assistance on access to US dollar market.

At the level of EU, the official assured that the Euro market is open to the Angolan banks, having highlighted the good relation between the institution he represents in Angola and Higher Education sector.

He said the EU and the Ministry of Agriculture will sign a 605,000 euro-agreement to fund a project for combat drought in the southern region of Angola.
