Angola is experiencing moment of preparation for election – MPLA official

Luanda – Angola is experiencing a moment characterized by the effective preparation of the general election that will take place on August 23, 2017.

This was said on Thursday in Luanda by the MPLA secretary general, Antonio Paulo Kassoma, when speaking at the opening of the meeting of the secretaries-general of the political parties emanating from the national liberation movements of the Southern Africa, namely MPLA (Angola), CCM (Tanzania), Swapo (Namibia), ANC (South Africa), Zanu- PF (Zimbabwe) and Frelimo (Mozambique).

For information, he stated that MPLA held its VII Ordinary Congress in August 2016, which outlined the guidelines for participation in the electoral process, through the adoption of the Strategy Motion of its leader, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, which contains Guidelines for the governance programme.

On the occasion, the official emphasized the active participation of the delegations of the parties to the congress, “which was once again the expression of the excellent relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that have characterized us for many years”.

As part of the preparation for the MPLA’s participation in the election, Paulo Kassoma praised the position taken by the party’s President, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, for not running for the for the elections, as there was no legal impediment to do so.

“We are facing a normal process of succession of generations that demonstrates well the size of our leader and the vitality of MPLA”, he stressed in front of an auditorium composed of members of the party’s central leadership.

He underlined that President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is leading this process of peaceful transition, guaranteeing political stability and harmony, indispensable premises for the country’s growth and socio-economic development.

“MPLA’s focus is on the divulgence and promotion of its presidential candidate, JoAPound o Lourenco, through his presentation to the militants and populations throughout the national territory, while improving the preparation for a successful participation in the next election”, he said.

The meeting, which ended on Thursday, aimed at coordinating points of view on issues of common interest and strengthening the relations that for several decades have united these parties that led to the independence of the respective countries.
