Angola: Foreign Minister travels to Addis Ababa

Luanda – The Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister, Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, left on Tuesday morning for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 30th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which precedes the 28th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), set for 30-31 January in that city.

The head of the Angolan diplomacy, who did not speak to the press at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, is being accompanied on this mission by the Culture Minister, Carolina Cerqueira, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto.

With the theme “Exploiting the Demographic Dividend, Investing in Youth”, the summit has as its high point the holding of elections for the president and vice-president of the organization, as well as for the posts of commissioners.

Angola is running with the former Secretary-General of the Inter-African Coffee Organization, Josefa Sacko, for the position of Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union.

Another Angolan candidate is the representative of the African Union to the UN, Ambassador Tete Antonio, who is running for the position of Commissioner for Political Affairs.
