Angola: Foreign Minister arrives in Addis Ababa

Luanda – Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti arrived Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 30th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council.

This event precedes the 28th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), set for 30-31 January in that city.

Angola also attended the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee in representation by the Permanent Ambassador to the African Union, Arcanjo do Nascimento.

The event, that took place ahead of the Executive Council, closed Tuesday.

The head of the Angolan diplomacy is accompanied on this mission by the Culture Minister, Carolina Cerqueira, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto.

On the other, the Angolan minister of Family and Women Promotion, Filomena Delgado, has been since Friday in Ethiopia to participate in the Pre-Summit of the Commission on the Situation of Women, under the African Union Summit.

With the theme “Exploiting the Demographic Dividend, Investing in Youth”, the summit has as its high point the holding of elections for the president and vice-president of the organisation, as well as for the posts of commissioners.

Angola is running with the former Secretary-General of the Inter-African Coffee Organisation, Josefa Sacko, for the position of Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union.

Another Angolan candidate is the representative of the African Union to the UN, Ambassador Tete Antonio, who is running for the position of Commissioner for Political Affairs.

The Heads of State and Government will discuss, behind closed doors, the Governance (African Governance and Election Architecture), and Integration (Free movement of people, goods and services).

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and the President of Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud-Abbas, will attend the event.
