Angola favors cooperation towards stateless persons

Luanda – The Republic of Angola, as a member of the United Nations, will continue to favor solutions based on cooperation with other countries regarding stateless persons, both in the normative and institutional aspects.

The statement comes from the chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Relations, Exalgina Gamboa, speaking at a seminar on “statelessness and the role of parliaments” held on Tuesday by the Angolan parliament.

The MP said that in this area, Angola will continue to make all the assumptions contained in the law on nationality, the law on asylum, refugee status and other international instruments.

She emphasized that at the internal level, the authorities seek to fine-tune the mechanisms that guarantee civil registration to all citizens.

The official informed that the Angolan State had ratified the OUA Convention on Refugees on 30 April 1981 and acceded to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees on 23 June 1981.
