57 Achieve First Class as Bingham University Celebrates 2,217 Graduates.


KARU: Bingham University, located in Karu, Nasarawa State, recently celebrated the graduation of 2,217 students during its 5th Convocation ceremony. This significant event, marking the conclusion of the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, witnessed 57 students achieving first class degrees.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the ceremony also saw 519 students receiving Second Class Upper degrees, while 576 obtained Second Class Lower degrees. A further 179 students graduated with Third Class degrees, and nine with Pass degrees. In addition to undergraduate achievements, the university awarded 262 MBBS degrees and produced 615 postgraduate graduates, including 41 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 156 Academic Masters, 298 Professional Masters, and 121 Postgraduate Diplomas.

The institution honored Prof. Yakubu Alhasan as its first emeritus professor during this convocation. Vice Chancellor Prof. Haruna Ayuba emphasized the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders through a blend of knowledge,
skills, and spiritual values. He highlighted the rapid infrastructure development at the university, including a new Senate Complex and additional student facilities.

Prof. Ayuba also noted the lifting of a ban by the Council for Legal Education, which allowed 131 law graduates to proceed to law school. He celebrated the induction of 123 medical doctors by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) scheduled for 2024. He appealed for continued support from stakeholders to enhance the university’s infrastructure and educational offerings.

Retired Gen. Martin Agwai, a special guest at the event, praised the stakeholders’ efforts in elevating the university’s standards. He congratulated the graduates, urging them to embrace opportunities and transform their ambitions into reality. Dr. Bagat Mallam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, encouraged graduates to utilize their acquired knowledge for societal betterment, emphasizing leadership and interpersonal skills for career success.

, Mr. John Mairafi, representing the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), commended Bingham University’s rapid growth and significant milestones, including the production of 9,000 graduates and the development of 80 academic programs. He highlighted the university’s robust curriculum standards and its potential for international collaboration.

Prof. Haruna Andrew, the Pro-Chancellor, acknowledged the vice chancellor’s efforts in continuing the vision of his predecessors. He encouraged graduates to view themselves as future leaders equipped with the skills to navigate the complexities of the world.

Chancellor Mr. Luka Panya-Baba expressed his congratulations to the graduates and the institution, urging them to strive for greater achievements. Graduates and their families shared their joy and gratitude for reaching this milestone, reflecting on the challenges and growth experienced during their academic journey.
