The Association for the Development of the Commune of Bobo-Dioulasso (AECB) is holding from July 29 to August 4, 2024 the 19th edition of the chitumu or shea caterpillar festival within the grounds of the headquarters of the national week of culture.
It has been 20 years since the association for the development of the commune of Bobo-Dioulasso (AECB) has organized annually (except the 2022 edition) the festival of the shea caterpillar or chitumu. This year the 19th edition will be held from July 29 to August 4, 2024 under the theme: ‘Security challenges and resilience of rural women: what perspectives? » . Organized within the headquarters of the National Culture Week (SNC) in Bobo-Dioulasso, the opening ceremony took place on Monday July 29, 2024.
According to the president of the AECB, Lassina Sanon, also president of the organizing committee for the 19th edition , the objective is not only to promote chitumu in a cultural and gastronomic event of identity, but also to offer women a niche for marketing
chitumu.
At this 19th edition , the public, according to him, will be able to discover quality raw dry or fresh chitumu, the different dishes based on shea caterpillars in their richness and diversity. According to the representative of the Minister in charge of culture, Siaka Sanou, this fair is a great example of resilience and support from the State in the promotion and enhancement of culture.
For him, by focusing on this theme this year, this 19th edition is perfectly in line with the plan of the ministry in charge of culture. ‘These 20 years of organization have made the caterpillar fair a school of rigor, excellence and perseverance for the benefit of young people ,’ he underlined. For the sponsor of this edition, Mamadou Lamine Sanogo, the initiative of this festival is original and the prospects it augurs for the preservation of chitumu are promising.
